NADRA to Launch Face Recognition for Elderly Struggling With Fingerprints

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is introducing facial recognition technology to help elderly citizens who face issues with fingerprint verification.

NADRA spokesperson Shabbahat Ali revealed the development during an interview on Geo News program Geo Pakistan. He explained that many senior citizens experience difficulty with biometric scans due to fading fingerprints, and face recognition will provide them with a smooth and reliable verification alternative.

Key Announcements from NADRA

✔️ Facial recognition for elderly citizens to ease ID verification.
✔️ Juvenile Card for children under 18, valid until adulthood.
✔️ Parent’s CNIC required for child registration – even if one parent is absent.
✔️ 359 counters in Karachi NADRA centers, with more to be added soon.
✔️ Divorce cases require Union Council certificate for record updates.

Why This Matters

Fingerprint issues have long been a major hurdle for Pakistan’s senior citizens when accessing NADRA services, pensions, and banking. The new face recognition system will eliminate this challenge, ensuring smoother services for the elderly.

At the same time, NADRA continues to stress the importance of birth registrations, saying that failure to register a child denies them their fundamental rights.
