The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, across 14 districts of the province in connection with upcoming local government by-elections.
According to an official notification, all government offices, departments, and educational institutions in these districts will remain closed on polling day to ensure voter participation.

Security Measures in Place
To maintain law and order during the by-polls, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has requested the deployment of Sindh Rangers.
A letter has already been sent to the federal interior ministry, asking for Rangers’ deployment at polling stations declared “most sensitive” in:
-
Karachi East
-
Karachi West
-
Keamari
-
Umerkot
Officials said these steps are being taken to ensure a safe and secure environment for voters, especially in areas with higher security concerns.
Why It Matters
The Sindh government’s decision reflects its commitment to providing citizens with a fair chance to exercise their right to vote without disruption. Declaring a holiday allows greater participation, particularly for those who may otherwise struggle to reach polling stations due to work commitments.
By-elections in Sindh often see heightened political activity, and this move—combined with strict security arrangements—aims to build public confidence in the electoral process.
