Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the much-anticipated Pink Scooter scheme will officially begin this week in Karachi. These scooters will be handed over to women free of cost, aiming to make their daily travel easier and safer.
The announcement was made during his visit to review the ongoing construction of the Yellow Line BRT project. The minister highlighted that work on depots is underway, while the Senator Taj Haider Bridge is in its final stages and expected to be completed within a week.
New Transport Projects on the Way
Apart from Pink Scooters, Karachi is set to welcome a fleet of double-decker and electric buses in the coming weeks. These additions are part of the Sindh government’s broader vision to modernize public transport with support from the World Bank.
Local Manufacturing Plans with China
Sharjeel Memon also revealed that during President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent trip to China, meetings were held to discuss setting up bus manufacturing plants in Sindh. This step would not only improve transport facilities but also create new employment opportunities for the people.
Challenges & Delays in Transport Projects
The minister admitted that certain hurdles, such as utility transfers, have delayed some projects. However, he assured the public that these issues are being resolved on priority to ensure Karachi’s transport system improves without further setbacks.
